History:

Police training goes back to the beginnings of police forming back in 1937 where training was limited only for preparing the police staff, whither officers or personnel, on military training and application of laws.

In 1956, the police device has developed together with its training programs when (the police training school) was established at the police fort provided with recruits barracks, class rooms and a training field.

The school focused mainly on training the cadets and recruits on the police duties, basic military training and the works of guarding and patrols and the school at that time followed the police main station.

Since 1969, the ministry of interior began sending the cadets on scholarships to police colleges and institutes in the neighboring countries in order to consolidate the mutual brotherly relationships and to follow the rise of progress in both: organizational and administrative fields that the kingdom has been witnessing since the beginning of its post independence era.

Beginning of the Academy

As a result of the fast, progressive growth and development of the kingdom of Bahrain at that time in every sector and device of the government including its ministries in general and the ministry of interior in particular, the new organizational structure was assigned in the year 1973 and "The training and operations department" was established to take care of all of the training affairs in the ministry of interior and therefore, this department took the first step in developing the training school to become a center that was named : ( Muharraq camp) where its main role was focused on training the police recruits to gain their basic 6 month training.

The trainee at this training period receives a basic training on the various police sciences provided the courses for officers and the personnel are established at that camp periodically. The guards were trained and qualified in the guards training center in (Busaiteen).

Because of the great growth in the ministry's departments and for the need to develop policing and proficiency in the field, the police training institute was opened on the 31st of May, 1988 under the patronage of his highness the late Amir, Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Al - Khalifa, (may god have mercy to his soul) which was the result of the solid belief of the wise leadership in training as one of the elements of the total development in the kingdom.

As a result of that, the institute came out to present a unique shift in Police personnel training through developing the training elements which include: employees, teaching methods, training methods, and different courses in a wider and more organized form.

As a continuation of the total development process in the kingdom's different sectors including the ministry of interior in the era of his majesty the king, Shaikh Hamad Bin Isa Bin Salman Al - Khalifa. The royal regulation no. (29) for the year 2003 was issued directly to re – organize the ministry of interior and as a result, the police training institute became known as : ( The Royal Police college) and became one of its main duties is to train the ministry's recruits and the prepare and qualify the cadets and university graduates both academic and police manners.

The royal regulation no. (69) for the year 2004 was issued directly to re – organize the police training college and as a result, it became known as : "The Royal Police Academy" and all of these developments were done mainly to produce professional police personnel.
